Pastor Earnest Teaching:

 

Today we are going to read the story of Elijah

we are going to look at those things that prevented him from getting to where God wanted Him to be:

1.      fear

can somebody who is very bold and courageous be fearful at the same time

Elijah proved to us this is possible

2.      discouragement

although he was a very courageous person, he succumbed to discouragement

3.      Ignorance

just like fear and discouragement, somebody can be so bold and courageous and yet walk in ignorance. its not because he doesn’t know or have it in mind, but he is not aware at the time he is supposed to make use of the knowledge he has

something happens and he is not aware, thus the awareness of knowledge

Pastor told us about the 3 kinds of knowledge

something happens and you are not aware and at hindsight you say why didn’t I do this

 

 

what is the antidote/what is the thing that will eliminate ignorance, discouragement and fear?

the single thing is God’s word

learning to saturate yourself with God’s word

 Colossians 3:16

abandon yourself on the word, study God’s word

let the word of God dwell in you richly

meditate on the word let it become the process and the content of your thoughts, it becomes your driving force

you can have the word of God in your mind to the point that you know but it is not driving you

God doesn’t want this word crumped up in our mind

God wants the word to be our lifeline

He wants it to be the blood in our vein

its like the food we eat, some are digested, and some get ingested

the word of God is not supposed to be in our spirit or mind, it is supposed to be our life

there are some Christians that are constipated by the word; they have the word, but they don’t live by it.

 

so, we need to have this understanding of God’s word

and Pastor always encourages us teaching us to meditate on God’s word

you brood over it till it becomes a part of you

 

the knowledge of God’s word through studying and meditating

meditation also implies that you apply what have learned

there is the meditation of your system

for instance, if you are to learn to play any of the instruments, they tell you the different keys and the different fingers that have to be on the different keys

as you learn, your fingers are not yet adjusted to the keys but as you keep practicing your fingers just become adjusted to the keys even to the point that you can be talking and still play the right keys

you must learn to apply the word of God until you just apply it by default

what you do is to use the word of God to condition yourself

 

1 kings 18:9-40 (CEV)

thank God we are reaching out to the whole world

there are some of us who are working with or for people who are not born again, it is our responsibility to bring the gospel to them

there is no situation that is difficult for the word of God to work

 

some Christians do what they do doesn’t men they are no longer Christians

say this ‘fear has no place in my life’

the rivers of waters is planted inside of me

the word of God that dwells in the inside of you becomes the water or river by which you live

 

anytime the bible talks about water it is actually talking about the word of God

 

for there to be a change in a situation there must be a saturation of God’s word

some people get discouraged because of the lack of knowledge of God’s word

 

when this word of God fills you the way it is supposed to fill you there will be no place for discouragement

As far as God is concerned, the fire and the water is the same

the fire is the Spirit of God, and the water is the word of God

so, when God wants you to be filled with the Spirit, He wants you to be filled with the word of God

God’s thought becomes your thought

 

1 Kings 19:1-19 CEV

verse 3-4: shows that Elijah was afraid

one thing I like about the scriptures, is that God tells us things as they are

disable fear from your mind and spirit

when you get born again you are moved from the human world to the realm of the Spirit

what could startle God nor the angels?

-          choose to fulfil your purpose

Elijah was discouraged

 

God is not asking us to hide

there are lots of Christians that are hiding

maybe they are hiding because they are afraid or discouraged

I refuse to hide

 

read chapter 20

Elijah could not fulfil his destiny in God

what is God calling you for?

what are your fears?

and for those who are discouraged why should you be discouraged by anything?

don’t let anybody take your place

There’s a place that God has ordained for you

there is a destiny He has ordained for you

leave the cave that you are living in and come to the hilltop

 that’s where God ordained for you to be

lift up your hands and speak in other tongues!
